A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 76 I Miss You

“Hiss!” Ranita deliberately let out a couple of shrieks, immediately causing Dylan to become anxious. He leaned in to help cool Ranita down, saying, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to!”

Instinctively, Ranita took a step back.

“Okay, okay!” Ranita sighed. She shouldn’t have teased Dylan! She enjoyed their friendship, but when things went sour, the consequences were often unsatisfactory.

Ranita realized she should trouble Dylan less in the future.

“Oh, by the way, have you eaten? Are you hungry… I can buy something for you!”

“No need! Dr. Pearson already got me something. I’m just a little tired,” Ranita paused and urged Dylan, “We’re almost there. You can go home first.”

“No way! I’ll take you home later,” Dylan stubbornly insisted, leaving Ranita with no choice but to accept a ride from him. Once she arrived home, instead of resting like usual, she pulled out her work list and organized it.

Her main project involved following up on orders from Stuart’s Corp., while the remaining tasks were personal favors rather than studio work.

After organizing everything, Ranita took a deep breath.

The situation seemed slightly more optimistic than expected; the worst-case scenario would be quitting her studio, leaving Holly in charge of everything she had worked so hard for – not worth it!

Now that Ranita was pregnant and uncertain about the legal aspects of her business affairs, she decided to consult a reliable lawyer – Chris immediately came to mind.

Ranita called Chris right away, saying, “Mr. Webster… it’s me, Ranita. I apologize for bothering you so late.”

“Why are you being so formal with me? Are you feeling better? Have you gone home?”

“I’m much better now, just had a stomach ache from eating something bad. Nothing serious!” Ranita made an excuse before continuing, “Mr. Webster, I have something going on and was wondering if you could recommend a trustworthy lawyer for me.”

“A lawyer?” Chris didn’t ask any further questions and promptly replied, “Marlon is excellent to work with. If you need his contact information, I can send it to you.”

If Chris recommended him, then Marlon must be good. Ranita expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Mr. Webster. Next time, I’ll assist you with your project for free.”

“It’s actually quite coincidental,” Chris paused before adding, “Are you available this weekend? A client needs an interpreter, and it would be great if you could help out!”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“No problem!” Ranita agreed without hesitation. The weekend was her personal time, so she didn’t mind taking on some freelance work.

“Then I’ll have my driver pick you up when the time comes!” After another pause, Chris added, “See you this weekend.”

After ending the call, Ranita received Marlon’s contact information from Chris and successfully reached out to him.

It wasn’t until she heard Marlon’s full name that she realized he was a well-known lawyer in the industry.

Ranita explained her situation to Marlon, who suggested suing Mia and Carl, but Ranita refused, knowing about Mia’s family situation – how would she survive in this social circle if legal troubles arose?

Ranita hesitated but decided to think about it later as she lay in bed, tossing and turning. Just as she was about to turn off her phone, Brendon unexpectedly called.

Brendon’s name flickered on the screen. Ranita held her breath before answering, his hoarse voice rang out, “Ranita… I miss you…”

Like morning dew enveloping pebbles, rushing into her heart, but when those cool droplets burst, they only left behind pain.
