A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 22 Shocked and Terrified

“Dylan, I plan to keep the baby, but I want you to help me keep it a secret,” Ranita said when she decided to tell Dylan. Dylan was so happy that he jumped up like a child and exclaimed, “Really? That’s great!”

Ranita stayed in the hospital for one night and was discharged with no major health issues. However, before leaving, she needed to have an ultrasound. The coupling agent applied on her belly felt cold, but when she saw the small shadow on the monitor screen, Ranita couldn’t help but smile.

After it was over, Ranita left with her report. Not far away from her stood, Shannon who tightly frowned while holding hands with a female doctor in a white coat. Wasn’t that Ranita? What was she doing here?

“Shannon? What’s wrong? What are you looking at?” The female doctor named Carlee Chase asked Shannon curiously. She was Shannon’s cousin and worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist at this hospital.

Shannon snapped out of her thoughts and smiled sweetly at Carlee, “Carlee, I think I just saw my friend.” In fact, Shannon wasn’t feeling good about this. Why would Ranita come to the OB-GYN department? Could it be… she was pregnant?! Just thinking about this possibility made Shannon’s heart race!

“Carlee, can you help me see what kind of procedure my friend is having here?” Since Carlee and Shannon had a good relationship together, without much thought or hesitation, Carlee agreed.

Soon after that, Carlee came out of the ultrasound room smiling, “Shannon, your friend is pregnant! She has been carrying for more than one month now.”

“What?” Shannon couldn’t help exclaiming! Was Ranita really pregnant? If it had only been over one month, then could Brendon be its father?! No, no, no! This can not happen!

After waiting three years for them to divorce, if Brendon knew that Ranita had his child, would he change his mind?

Shannon clenched her fists secretly while feeling both surprised and angry inside.

“Shannon… Shannon… what happened ? Your face doesn’t look good. Did something happen?” Carlee asked worriedly.

“I’m fine, Carlee! Maybe because I didn’t eat breakfast this morning so I feel dizzy.” Originally, they planned on having lunch together later today, but now how could she possibly have any appetite? Her whole mind focused on finding ways – the baby cannot stay, and Brendon must never know!

Ranita returned back into her ward just as Dylan finished her discharge procedures. He excitedly stared at the image in their report, “Wow! Look how cute the baby looks!”

Ranita was speechless.

“Just a little black dot, how can you see it as cute?” Ranita couldn’t honestly agree with Dylan’s words, but Dylan was thrilled to bits.

Ranita couldn’t help teasing him, “Someone who doesn’t know any better would think you’re already a dad!”

“Well, it’s not impossible!” Dylan grabbed the report card and suddenly bent over with a grin at Ranita. Dylan and Chris were brothers, but they had different mothers. Dylan looked more like his birth mother – he had slightly southern features with small facial features and fair skin that didn’t show his age much. Even though Dylan was three years older than her, Ranita always felt they were the same age.

“Since we’re both single, why don’t we raise a child together?” Dylan asked tentatively, leaving Ranita stunned for a moment.

“Dylan, don’t be ridiculous!” Ranita laughed off the awkwardness between them – she and Dylan were just friends without any romantic feelings.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

“Don’t take it so seriously! I’m just kidding!” With lowered eyes and an indescribable sense of disappointment in his heart, he knew he shouldn’t burden on her too much about this idea. Therefore, he showed off his signature warm smile, “Let me tell you something – there are people lining up seven circles around to date me! If you want to grab your chance, then do it quickly, because once this opportunity is gone, there won’t be another one like this again.”
