The Rejected Luna: Daddy, Where is Mommy?

48

For a while, she was surprised to see Calvin in the kitchen, and Roselet was on his back, holding his neck and wrapping her legs around him.

Calvin was singing while preparing Salmon and salad bagels for Roselet’s lunch box and shaking his legs at the same time.

She’d not been two weeks from shore

When down on her a right whale bore

The captain called all hands and swore

He’d take that whale in tow (huh)

*

She didn’t want to admit it, but she was jealous of the bond between Roselet and Calvin. She had thought that Calvin would be a careless father; after all, Calvin didn’t look like a person to her who would have ever handled the responsibility for anything. But damn, she was so wrong about him.

Soon may the Wellerman come

To bring us sugar and tea and rum

One day, when the tonguing is done

We’ll take our leave and go

Ethlyn wanted to gain Roselet’s toward her, but she looked so happy and so cute while singing that she didn’t want to disturb her and waited for Roselet to see her, but at last, she couldn’t control herself and started joining father and daughter.

Da-da-da-da-da

“Mommmmmyyyy,” Roselet screamed happily, unable to believe her eyes, and quickly looked at Calvin. “Calvin, is mommy really here? She asked him to confirm, to which he nodded his head with a smile.

“Daddddyyyy”

“Yes, love.”

“Can I go in her arms?” She asked with a pout. She didn’t want to make Calvin feel bad that she left his side the moment Ethlyn came into the picture. At the same time, Ethlyn clenched her jaw, seeing the control of Calvin over Roselet, while Calvin smirked, silently showing her where he stands in Roselet’s life.

“Sure, love.”

“When did you arrive here, Mommy?” Roselet asked, wrapping her hands around her neck.

“Yesterday morning, dear,” Ethlyn replied with a smirk. “And I wanted to meet you when you were leaving my pack, but your daddy didn’t let me meet you.” She told Roselet the truth about her father and then glared at Calvin, who was a stupid grin on his face.

Ethlyn walked out of the kitchen and sat on the couch, keeping Roselet in her lap.

“At that time, Calvin was angry, but it looks like he isn’t angry anymore; otherwise, you wouldn’t be here,” Roselet responded, knowing her father very well; sometimes, he might behave rudely in anger, but he undoes his mistake as well when he realizes his mistake. Roselet turned her head and looked at Calvin. “I’m so proud of you, daddy. I’m glad that you didn’t let me down.” She said, giving him a flying kiss.

Calvin caught it and brought it close to his heart, faking to faint, on which Roselet giggled.

By observing them for a while, Ethlyn felt that she wasn’t needed in Roselet’s life anymore.

‘Am I that late that my pup learned to survive without me?’ She wondered.

“By the way, Mommy, are you here just to meet me?” Roselet asked hopefully.

“No, sweetheart. I’m here to apologize to you for my rude behavior. I’m so sorry for hurting you and making you cry.” Ethlyn sincerely apologized while Calvin sat beside them on the couch beside them, holding Roselet’s breakfast in his hand.

Of course, Roselet could eat her food on her own, but Calvin used to feed her in the morning because she used to take a lot of time to finish the food, and she had to reach school timely.

“You don’t have to apologize, Mommy. It’s fine. Grandma says that only a person with a big heart can apologize and only a person with a bigger heart can forgive, and my heart is very big,” Roselet said, widening her whole hand on which Ethlyn kissed her cheek, wiping her happy tears that her daughter was raised so well.

Roselet then looked at Calvin and opened her mouth for the first bite. Ethlyn wanted to feed her too, but at that time, she controlled her emotions. “Except for apologizing, why are you here, Mommy?” Roselet asked again. She wanted to hear that particular thing that her innocent eyes had dreamt of.

“I… I… Rose, sweetheart… please don’t get me wrong but is it possible for you to stay some time with me.. Just with me. Just in the way you lived with your daddy all these years? I mean, we can create a great bond together, and then..”

“Mommy, Mommy!!” Roselet stopped her after munching her food. Calvin had told her already that she couldn’t have both her real father and real mother at the same time, and listening to all this; she understood what her mommy was suggesting. “I can’t live without daddy.” She said and saw Ethlyn’s sad face. “I’m sorry.”

Ethlyn smiled meekly and careless her hair, “I’m glad that you love your daddy so much. And don’t be sorry for telling the truth.” She said so that Roselet wouldn’t feel bad. While Calvin was so proud of her daughter, he would buy her anything she would ask at that moment.

Roselet smiled, “Now, except for this topic, why are you here, Mommy?”

“I guess nothing,” Ethlyn mumbled. “I just wanted to share each and every moment of my life with you, but I also respect your decision to stay with your daddy.”

“But I never said I don’t want to stay with you,” Roselet said, and all of a smile wiped from Calvin’s face. “You can stay here with us. In that way, I will have both mommy and daddy.” She suggested.
