Suddenly There Are Three (Bailey and Artemis)

Chapter 1021 Reap What You Sow

“I...”

Bailey wanted to speak, but it felt as if her throat was stuffed with cotton. She was unable to utter a single word. Indeed, if I can't give

Edmund what he wants, what right do I have to pity him? My pity and heartache will only cause him to be further infatuated with me.

Edmund understood clearly, so he used death as a threat, forcing her to dispel the pity in her heart.

Artemis saw through it all, so he dragged her out by force, solely to decisively cut off Edmund's lingering thoughts and spare him from further

exhaustion.

However, she didn't see it. She naively believed that her sympathy could soothe the pain in Edmund's heart.

Little did she know her sympathy and pity were the sharpest knives capable of hurting Edmund the most.

“It's not like that. I truly didn't mean to cause him trouble, nor did I ever intend to give him hope. It's just that seeing Edmund in that state, my

heart aches. It hurts so much.” As she spoke, she suddenly burst into tears.

After all she had been through, there were very few things in the world that could stir her emotions.

But Edmund... that man who tugged at her heartstrings. A mere glance at him was sufficient to make her break down in tears.

Artemis gently relaxed her shoulders and chin, leaning in to kiss her eyes, inch by inch.

Only after he had kissed away the tears in her eyes did he say hoarsely, “His decision to never marry for your sake is his own. We can't

influence it. But you can face him indifferently instead of constantly uttering words of guilt and pity. Since Edmund has let go, you should

learn to be resolute as well. If you continue to pity him yet can't give him what he desires, you're only hurting him further and causing him

more pain.”

Bailey was slumped in her chair, her body trembling slightly.

She truly was unemotional, or at least, she didn't know how to handle feelings she couldn't reciprocate. “Should I avoid seeing him in the

future?”

Upon hearing her question, Artemis knew she was heeding his advice, and his gaze gradually softened.

He reached out and gently stroked her head, speaking softly. “There's no need to avoid him deliberately. From now on, just face him calmly Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

when you meet. Drop any apologies, pity, or sympathy. If you keep on with these emotions, you're just pushing him to the brink of

desperation. Do you understand?”

Bailey quickly nodded.

When she left the gazebo, she didn't understand, but she did now.

If it weren't for Artemis' timely reminder, she would've made a huge mistake.

After several months of recuperation, Edmund's heart had gradually settled down.

She was being foolish, almost doing something that would have tugged at his heartstrings.

“I understand now, Artemis. Thank you.”

Artemis picked her up again, smiling as he said, “Aunt mentioned that lunch is ready. Let's have a meal before we leave.”

In the evening, at the Xuereb residence, after much effort, Olivia managed to convince Justin to return home.

At the entrance of the living room, Justin ascended the steps. Seeing his mother standing at the door, visibly relieved at his return, he couldn't

help but sneer inwardly.

Ever since Sloan regained consciousness and took back control, Scarlett had become increasingly unrestrained in the Xuereb residence.

Olivia needed Scarlett's help, so she often humbled herself, frequently enduring the latter's temper.

Every time Scarlett infuriated her, she would retreat to her room and smash things around. Then, she would vent all her anger on her husband.

Over time, Christopher found himself unable to bear that inexplicable rage, so he recently moved to the Xuereb family's mansion in the

countryside by himself.

Before leaving, he asked his wife if she wanted to move with him.

Olivia was worried her departure might anger Scarlett, so she had no choice but to grit her teeth and stay in the Xuereb residence.

Seeing her endure so much for the sake of her maternal family, Christopher no longer concerned himself with her wellbeing and left home on

his own.

Without her husband to vent her frustrations on, Olivia had been bottling up a bellyful of gloom lately. She felt particularly uncomfortable.

“At last, you're back. Hurry in and keep her company. After all, she's carrying your child. The wedding is approaching. Stay here tonight and

personally escort her to the official residence tomorrow to await the wedding.”

Justin looked at his mother's gloomy expression and sneered. “How does it feel to be ordered around by the younger generation?”

Olivia's face stiffened. “H-How did you know?”

Justin mocked, “The whole of Hallsbay knows you've been groveling before Scarlett now. Do I need someone else to tell me? It's common

knowledge.” I wonder how she'll feel when she finds out that the child Scarlett is carrying is not mine and that Scarlett can't save the

Campbell family at all. Presumably, she will go berserk and flay Scarlett alive. I'm somewhat looking forward to the arrival of tomorrow.

Olivia gritted her teeth, pointing at him angrily. “I did all this for you, and you dare to mock me, Justin. Has your conscience been eaten by a

dog?”

With a cool smile, Justin said icily, “Since you brought her back, you'll have to reap what you sow. Treat her like a revered ancestor if you

must.”

Having said that, he walked straight into the living room.

Watching her son's retreating figure, Olivia unexpectedly felt a pang of regret.

She sacrificed her son's lifelong happiness to save her maiden family, offending her husband and son in the process. She wondered if what she

did was truly worth it.

Inside the room, Scarlett saw Justin walk in and quickly stood up to greet him, “Justin, you're back.”

Justin subtly moved aside, maintaining a distance of one meter from her. “Why did you call me back?”

Scarlett didn't manage to hug him, so she felt slightly displeased. However, she skillfully concealed it. “I'm heading to the official residence

tomorrow. Would you stay with me tonight? When dawn breaks tomorrow, you can personally escort me there.”

Justin was about to refuse, but thinking of the drama that was about to unfold, he barely managed to suppress his impulse. “All right, then. I

have some matters to attend to, so I'll head back to my study now. I'll come find you tomorrow morning.”

Seeing him about to go upstairs, Scarlett hurriedly reached out to grab his arm but ended up grasping at thin air. “Justin...”

Without looking back, Justin headed toward the staircase.

As soon as he reached the second floor, he could faintly hear Scarlett scolding his mother.

Nevertheless, seeing how both parties were willingly getting themselves involved in that drama, he figured they only had themselves to blame.

Olivia could have had a dutiful daughter-in-law and a well-behaved grandson, but she squandered it all herself.

Even if she regretted it in the future, she brought it upon herself.

The next day, Bailey made a trip to Saunders Group, where he saw Victoria, the CEO, busy to the point of exhaustion in his office.

“Yesterday, I went to visit Veronique and Edmund, but I didn't come to see you. I didn't even give you a call. I thought you'd be mad at me,

but surprisingly, you're not even a bit excited about my return to Hallsbay.”

Victoria was engrossed in a pile of documents, absentmindedly saying, “It's not like it's your first time returning from abroad. What's so

special about it? I'm really busy right now and don't have time to attend to you. There are drinks at the bar. Help yourself.”

Bailey furrowed her brows, asking with a hint of confusion, “Didn't Emmy Boutique already secure a month's worth of promotional resources

from LG Corporation for you? Why are you still so busy?”

Before she left for Gregan, she called Suzy.

A while ago, Suzy replied to her, saying that they defeated De Lux to win the bid and transferred it to Saunders Group.

“Vicky, did De Lux plot against Saunders Group?”
