Chapter 121

Gordon stepped in to save her face from flushing even more furiously. “If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to.”

The cab stopped in front of Belchester High School.

“We’re here. Here are your things,” Gordon said.

Mayra had wanted to tell Gordon something important but decided against it. Gordon, I’ll call you after school.”

Gordon nodded. “Alright.”

Mayra carried her boxes and bottles and walked through the school gates. She turned to see the cab still parked, with Gordon watching her.

Once inside, she found a spot to hide her collected items and dusted off her hands.

“I’ll sell you guys after school,” Myra muttered to herself.

She made it to class just in time, five minutes before the lesson started.

By then, Gordon had stepped out of the cab while carrying his laptop bag.

Samuel glanced at him and asked, “Gordon, Mayra seemed off earlier. Do you think she knows you’re leaving for Candor City? When are you planning to tell her?”

Gordon lowered his gaze and replied calmly, “I’ll let her know someday.”

Samuel sighed. “You’ve finally started dating Mayra, and now you guys have to be apart.”

Gordon’s expression remained stern. “We’re not dating.”

“What?” Samuel was shocked. “You’re kidding, right? Even I can tell Mayra’s into you. Just by the way she looked at you just now, it’s obvious she has feelings for you.”

Gordon nodded. “I know.”

Samuel continued, “If you know, why didn’t you say anything in the car? Were you too embarrassed with other people around? It’s just a relationship. Why are you taking it so seriously?

“Besides, you’re the top student in the city. Once you make it big, not to mention Myra, there’ll be plenty of girls after you. My dad was the same and ended up divorcing my mom!”

Gordon’s voice was steady. “It’s not the same,” he said.

He recalled Mayra’s words, “Gordon, can you promise me that I’ll be the only person you like no matter what happens in the future?”

For him, there would be no one else but her. But it was too early for them to be in a relationship, and they had plenty of time ahead.

Mayra, having not rested well at noon, dozed off during the afternoon class. She woke up only when school was over.

A group of classmates approached her, asking, “Mayra, want to walk home with us?”

Mayra packed her books into her bag and refused, “No, you guys go ahead. I need to use the restroom.”

She hurried out and headed to the small grove behind the school. She pulled out a large sack from her bag to dump all the collected items inside. She tore the tape off the cardboard boxes, flattened

the boxes, and stuffed them in the sack as well.

With the sack in hand, she exited through the school’s back gate, ignoring the curious glances she attracted.

Right then, a familiar car approached. It pulled over, and the window rolled down.

“Ms. Sadler,” Shane greeted.

With the sack, Mayra hopped into the back seat, puzzled to see it empty. “Why are you alone? Where’s Andy?”

Shane replied, “Mr. Barlow has to entertain a guest. He’ll be late.”

“Is he with Hailey?” Mayra asked.

“Yes, today’s meeting involves the important clients Hailey brought in, so she has to be there,” Shane explained.

Recalling Anderson and Hailey’s intimate moments in the office and the private room earlier made Mayra feel a pang of discomfort. NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.

“Mr. Gorman, I feel like Andy’s relationship with Hailey is a little special. Why doesn’t he try to reconcile with Isabel instead of spending so much time with Hailey?” Mayra asked.

Shane glanced at her through the rearview mirror. “Mr. Barlow is doing all this for you, Ms. Sadler.”
